About the program
Licensed Private home child care is a unique option for working parents. While the children enjoy all the benefits of a small group in a private home, parents are assured that the home meets the licensing standards under the Ontario Day Nurseries Act.
Each private home child care provider goes through an interview and screening process, ensuring their suitability for this line of work. The screening and regular monitoring is completed by our staff. Our staff have an number of years experience in the private home child care field. The Supervisor and Home Visitors are qualified Early Childhood Educators.
In part this includes:
- application and interview process
- criminal references and children's aid society checks for residents over 18 years of age
- reference checks
- training and orientation
- site safety checks completed regularly
- compliance of local fire safety requirements
- monthly, drop-in, home visits
Training and orientation of private home care providers includes:
- behaviour management
- nitration
- fire and home safety
- programming for children
- child development

Process for parents looking for child care
- complete an application (PDF) and return to our office
- a staff member will set up an appointment to meet with you
- a meeting enables us to answer any questions you may have, but also gives us the opportunity to find out more about the environment and the caregiver that would be best for you
- we will refer you to potential care providers
- once you have interviewed them and made your decision, care will begin the day that it is required
